World Artisans Congress(WAC) is a non-profit international organisation serving artisans around the world.
The International Crafts Development Foundation (ICDF), established in Hong Kong, China, is the legal entity of WAC. Registered number: 3323015. Registered address: Room 2609, China Resources Building, 26 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.
Human civilisation began with artisans. In the narrow sense, artisans refer to traditional craftsmen; in the broad sense, artisans refer to makers of all non-natural objects.
The making of artisans is another kind of "growth" in contrast to nature, which involves intellect, physical strength, and complex division of labour. Since the Industrial Revolution, this "growth" has exacerbated the imbalance between nature and individual life.
All human progress is created by artisans and conversely. No craftsmanship should ever be a mechanical repetition unrelated to a spiritual goal, be it motivation or result, be it inheritance or innovation, be it by handicraft or by the use of machines and artificial intelligence. Thinking about what is made is more important than the making itself, it is about the destiny and future of humanity.
WAC will promote the discovery of the value and contemporary use of traditional handicrafts through academia, business, creativity and education.
WAC will reach an ethical consensus and action guidelines for future manufacturing through the ESG framework. To promote the harmonious coexistence of artisans, manufacturing and nature.
